Prospective High School Students
High school graduation is a major achievement, but what about life after graduation? If you enjoy the outdoors, are concerned about the well being of our environment, have an interest in science, education, policy, or communication, and want a rewarding career where you can make a difference, consider a degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (ESPM) at the University of Minnesota!
ESPM is an interdisciplinary major focused on training the next generation of environmental professionals and leaders. It emphasizes the integration of basic and applied sciences, social science, communication, management, policy, and education in order to prepare students to effectively tackle the environmental challenges facing our world. As an incoming freshman you'll be part of our ESPM Student Learning Community. In addition, you'll get one-on-one advising and mentoring from ESPM professors, the same people who teach all of your classes! Other benefits include active student clubs, scholarships, an honors program, international experiences, and research opportunities.
ESPM is a major in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. Located on the beautiful St. Paul campus just a short, free bus ride from the Minneapolis campus, you'll have the best of both worlds: a small, friendly community with access to the resources of a major research University.
Below are some quick links you may find helpful as a high school student exploring your college and university options. You are considered a freshman if you have not completed college-level coursework since graduating from high school. If you were a PSEO student or took classes through College in the Schools you are still considered a freshman; however, you will need to submit an official transcript of your college coursework. If you took Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, you may also qualify for college credit and are still considered a freshman.
